Scientific Method and Process Skills Classwork:
Sept 7 and 8, 2016
Today we wrapped any loose ends from the previous class. I handed back the lab equipment scenarios WS and we went over the pieces of lab equipment that would match the scenarios. I reviewed the lab with the students and then they got into groups and completed the Cup Stacking Challenge. This was turned in for a grade. I was very impressed with everyone's perseverance. The challenges were hard and frustration set in....but you all hung on and worked through it. GREAT JOB!!!

Today we finished the Lab Equipment Notes. Students were then given a worksheet with scenarios on it. They had to list out all of the lab equipment that they felt should be included in order to complete the lab. This was collected for a grade. Students then worked on scientific method notes. They viewed a video THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD and they had to fill in a worksheet on the steps, what the step was about and an actual lab example. After the video, we went through a notes PRESENTATION to review the scientific method. The students then completed a worksheet in which they had to read examples and match what part of the scientific method it illustrated.

Today I collected any signed forms that were given out the first days of school. Students had time to continue to add to their all about them newspaper. I collected it again and it will be given out one more time for them to add any final details to it. We then spent a good amount of time setting up our science notebook. We created the table of contents and put our first entries into it. The Table of Contents can be found on the toolbar above. Students then wrote down 5 goals. From those 5 goals, they chose one goal and created a SMART goal from it. Simply put...they had to take their goal and make it very specific with steps and a time line for accomplishing this goal. Then, students took a learning style inventory in which they learned whether they were a VISUAL, TACTILE or AUDITORY learner. I gave students a sheet that reviewed tips for success with regards to their learning style. Finally, some classes started the lab equipment notes. The students had to fill in the purpose of the various pieces of lab equipment from our discussion.

Welcome Back! I am so excited to meet all of you. Today in science, we went over the rules, procedures and expectations. Students worked on an all about them newspaper. I collected this so that students can work on it for the next couple of classes. We went over the Science Safety Contract and the iPad usage contract and these were sent home for a signature.
